Hiking Tour in Corcovado – San Pedrillo Station

Activity starts at 7:30 am – please arrive 15 minutes before 

 This is a full day tour from 07:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m approximately, leaving Uvita heading to Corcovado in a boat trip of approximately an hour and a half, once we arrive, we´ll have a snack before the hike, the path we will take it´s called El Pargo trail. The hike takes approximately 2 hours. At the end of this trail, a Picnic-style lunch will be served at the San Pedrillo station and at the end, if the natural conditions (time and weather) allow it, a second walk will be taking place in the trail called La Catarata or Marco Reyes, the return from Corcovado to Uvita begins no later than 2:00 pm, because the weather and sea conditions vary (tides).

Corcovado National Park

The Corcovado National Park preserves the last portion of the Tropical Humid Forest of the Meso american Pacific. Its location, its climatic characteristics, the capricious condition of its soils and its topography, make this site the home of an amazing diversity of biological species.

It has a flora that adds thousands of species, many of which have a restricted distribution and that have disappeared in other regions, as well as the fauna that stands out because of the diversity of its species, even more so if we consider that a large number figure in the list of those in danger of extinction.

Location

The Park is located on the Pacific coast, Osa Peninsula, in the province of Puntarenas.

Corcovado is located in the zone of life corresponding to the very humid tropical forest of the South Pacific region of Costa Rica, and it can be said that no other wild area of ​​the country protects the resources of plants and animals present in that region. This wilderness area is considered an excellent living laboratory, where you can study the structure and functioning of tropical ecosystems and the relationships between them.

The very humid forests of Corcovado, are among the last redoubts that still maintain ecosystems of the Very Humid Tropical Forest, unchanged in the American Pacific, with rainfall exceeding 5,000 mm per year. It also conserves the last portion of the Humid Tropical Forest of the Mesoamerican Pacific.

The park is one of the most important sites in the conservation area, for the protection of the lizard and the crocodile.

Archeology

The Corcovado National Park has vestiges of a relatively recent pre-Hispanic occupational tradition.

The archaeological studies carried out have allowed the location of three archaeological sites in two periods of occupation. The Aguas Buenas phase (200-800 years d.C.) and the Chiriquí phase (1,000-1,500 years d.C.) with subsistence activities. The archaeological sites are called El Cedral, located on a terrace of the Sirena River, near its confluence with the Cedral River, the other is called Sirena, located northwest of the station of the same name in the south of the park. In both sites archaeological artifacts of great importance have been found.

Its location, its climatic characteristics, the capricious condition of its soils and its topography, make this site the home of an amazing diversity of biological species. Because of the richness of the area, it has aroused an interest among Costa Rican scientists and other countries to develop research projects and scientific studies, as well as promoting environmental education.
